Chef Jason Alston, the head chef and owner of Gwada Soul, established the restaurant in 2023 with his wife, Cathy, to celebrate the fusion of Gullah cuisine and the vibrant flavors of her French Caribbean roots from Guadeloupe. A graduate of The Art Institute of San Antonio, Jason's passion for cooking is driven by a desire to honor cultural food traditions while adding his own twist. He specializes in blending the bold, hearty flavors of Gullah cuisine, influenced by West African traditions and the Lowcountry of South Carolina, with the aromatic and fresh elements of Caribbean cooking. This unique culinary approach creates inspired dishes such as Colombo Curry Pork, Gullah Catfish, Shrimp and Grits, and Creole Oxtail, offering diners an unforgettable experience that celebrates history, culture, and authentic taste.
